The Second Annual Joseph Frazier Benefit Showcase took place September 30th at Calabasas High School, raising money and spirits for the injured Calabasas assistant coach and former CS Northridge standout. Many of the top teams from the San Fernando Valley and beyond were on hand for a great day of basketball for a great cause.

Here is the third of seven free game reports on the event:

3 pm: Camarillo 70, La Canada 56

By Dave Rogahn

Jacob Alonzo scored 28 points and Rhett King had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Camarillo held off a late rally by La Canada at the 2nd Annual Joseph Frazier Benefit Showcase September 30th at Calabasas HS.

Camarillo jumped to a 17-7 lead in the first few minutes, and pushed the lead to 22-10 midway through the first half. But that lead appeared in jeopardy moments later when Alonzo knocked knees with a La Canada player and had to leave the game with 5:41 left in the first half.

But Alonzo returned about three minutes later, and the lead quickly grew. He converted a 3-point play to make it 31-16, and then fed Alex Martin for a basket to make it 33-16. Then he knocked down a 3-pointer to push the lead to 20 at 36-16. He also hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half, making it 40-22.

La Canada rallied in the second half behind the hot shooting of Dan Jun, who made four straight shots at one point. A driving lay-up by Koko Kurdoghlian cut the deficit to single digits at 55-46. And 3-pointer by Kyle Thomas with four and a half minutes left made it a 5-point game at 58-53.

But that would be as close as La Canada would get. Alonzo hit a short jumper to make it 64-56 with about two minutes to play. Ardavan Seif made it 66-56 with two free throws and then passed to Martin for a score to make it 68-56. Then he made two more free throws to make it 70-56 and close out the scoring.

Alonzo finished with 28 points, including 4 three-pointers, plus 4 assists and 2 steals. King had the 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Martin had 10 points.

For La Canada, Jun had 15 points, all in the second half, including 3 three-pointers. Jack Anderson had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Kurdoghlian had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
