In a game featuring standout pitchers Matt Trask (Davis) and Josh Adams (Pleasant Grove), hits were tough to come by on Tuesday. The Blue Devils though used a four run second inning to move past the Eagles 4-3 in a Top 20 matchup.

Davis got on the board first with four runs in the second inning off four walks, two hits and two Pleasant Grove errors in making the end of the day for Adams on the mound. John Ariola had a RBI single in the second. Pleasant Grove came back in the third with three runs in part due to aggressive base running. Dalton Gomez, Austin Friello and Bronson Grubbs each scored runs and the Eagles stole three bases in total that inning.

The game settled down after the third with Trask throwing five no-hit innings and Brett Elgin throwing 4.1 shutout innings in relief of Adams. Gomez followed with a scoreless seventh. Jack Miille had two shutout innings for Davis to close out the game and preserve the win for Trask.

6-foot-3 senior catcher Hayden Duer had two hits and a walk and Joe Murray added two hits from the leadoff spot for Davis. Pleasant Grove catcher Nico Toni had the lone hit for the Eagles.

Davis moved to 6-1 with just a loss to Rocklin on March 15 on its resume. The Blue Devils haven't given up more than three runs this season heading into Friday's game with Jesuit at Raley Field. Pleasant Grove falls to 4-3 and has lost three out of four games. Playing a tough schedule, Pleasant Grove has been held to four runs or less (including two shutouts) in five of seven games this season. The Eagles will play McClatchy on Thursday.

Prospect Watch

Trask, a 6-foot-3, 220 pound right-hander verbally committed to UCLA, threw five no-hit innings with three walks, a hit batter and six strikeouts. While he missed high early in the game, Trask settled in working the lower part of the zone. He racked up double digit swings and misses in relying heavily on his fastball. He did get a pair of swing and misses on change-ups to Adams. He moved to 3-0 on the year and is one of the top junior arms in the region.

Adams is a UC Santa Barbara signee who is coming back from a knee injury suffered during his junior year in football. At the plate, he went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base. The lefty struggled on the mound with his command in giving up four hits, three walks and four runs in 1.2 innings. At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Adams is slotted as an outfielder for the Gauchos, but could be a potential left-handed arm to watch as a 2-way option.
