August 20, 2013St. Mary's-Stockton wing Charise Holloway saw her recruitment take on a national flair this summer after a strong showing with JBS. In the end, she stayed on the West Coast with Arizona.
The 5-foot-9 Holloway chose the Wildcats after narrowing down her list to the Wildcats, Nebraska and Ole Miss.
"Arizona is an amazing school. The coaching staff is amazing. The academic advisor (Samantha), she's just so helpful and there are so many resources academically to help you succeed," Holloway said. "I just fell in love with Arizona."
Ranked No. 11 in the pre-summer NCP Top 40 rankings, Holloway is a high energy player who rebounds well and is at her best in transition. She can handle it some and attacks from the elbows and in.
"Over the summer, I just felt like our team just had a lot of chemistry. When our team has chemistry we all start playing very well," Holloway said. "We all played well as a team due to the chemistry."
Holloway is part of a talented perimeter class for the Wildcats, which features Taryn Griffey from Florida and JaLea Bennett from Texas. They also have Cherice Harris from Etiwanda in Southern California. Last year, Arizona went 12-18 and lost to Utah in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament. The Wildcats have had success recruiting the Sac-Joaquin Section with senior Erica Barnes (Rosemont), sophomore Nyre Harris (Lincoln-Stockton) and freshman Dejza James (Pleasant Grove).
Good pick-up for Arizona as it adds another athletic and versatile player heading into the sixth year under head coach Niya Butts.
