October 27, 2013Elk Grove is a hotbed for baseball talent and the college prospects continue to emerge. Franklin-Elk Grove middle infielder Hank LoForte has taken multiple unofficial visits along the West Coast, but decided his future was in Fullerton.
LoForte committed to Cal State Fullerton last week after taking unofficial visits to Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara, Sacramento State, Long Beach State and UCLA. He took his visit to Fullerton prior to his sophomore baseball season and knew it was the place for him.
"Once I went onto the Fullerton campus, I knew it would be the one. I love their coaches and the vibe of the school. It's a big school, but it has a small town feel," LoForte said.
Franklin head coach Bryan Kilby added on his returning infielder, "Hank is a tremendous five tool player who is very knowledgeable about the game and loves to play baseball. As a left handed hitting middle infielder, and with his ability to play the game the way he does, it makes him that much more valuable. I think he will fit in very well at Cal State Fullerton, when he arrives in the fall of 2015."
LoForte has been a varsity starter since his freshman year and has helped the Wildcats reach at least the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North finals each of the last two years.
"As a player at Franklin High School, Hank batted leadoff and played in the middle of our infield as a freshman. He already owns a number of school baseball records and will probably break a few more records before he is done here. He is the ultimate competitor, and is a great teammate. This year, his junior year, he will be one of our captains, and play shortstop and bat at the top of the order."
He spent his summer with the Sacramento Stingers and noted improved defense and better hitting against left-handed pitchers as areas of improvement. This fall, he is playing with Franklin HS and the Red Sox scout team, he said.
