Manning stays humble in face of accolade

MORE: U.S. Army All-American Bowl roster

The launch for the U.S. Army All-American selection tour has begun, and on Wednesday, Dallas Kimball High School DT Justin Manning was the latest to receive his jersey.

Manning is ranked by Rivals.com as No. 7 at his position and is getting a lot of attention. He has narrowed his college selection list to five: LSU, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M and USC.

Even with the media attention surrounding his final five and the U.S. Army All-American game, Manning maintains a low profile, which he credits to older brother, Demarcus Granger.

"I try and stay humble," Manning said. "God is good. My brother always told me to not get big-headed."

The U.S. Army All-American experience is even more special for Manning because he continues a legacy.

"My brother played at the bowl game. I remember going to watch him a couple of years ago and now I get my turn."

Manning said he is approaching the event as a business trip. "I am most excited about going against the nation's best players," Manning said. "I need to start taking a look at the roster to see what offensive lineman I want to go against."

The game will have a number of recruits make their college selection live on game day. And although Manning remains undecided on his college selection, he said he would make a decision before the bowl week festivities.

"I will make me decision at our homecoming game, Oct. 19," Manning said. The 6-foot-2, 275-pound tackle took his official visit to Oklahoma last weekend and has another visit set for this weekend. "This weekend I am going to Texas A&M," Manning said. "I plan on making it to all my final schools before I announce."

By the time Manning and the West team take on the East in the 13th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, one college program will have landed the four-star defensive tackle.

Which one will it be? According to Manning, the program he selects will have values similar to those within the U.S. Army All-American Bowl: honor and trust.
