Blais knows the way
Matt Blais.Serra reached the Central Coast Section Division I finals last season and graduated a pair of pitchers to UC Davis in Orlando Razo and Blake Peters. The Aggies came back to the San Mateo campus for another arm in securing the commitment of right-hander
Blais verbally committed to UC Davis on July 11 after looking at Santa Clara, San Francisco, UC San Diego and UC Riverside.
"It was a good school for me because of the academics and I really like the campus," Peters said. "The coaches are great guys and love the game a lot."
The Serra right-hander knew a little bit about Davis before they started actively recruiting him, but the attention picked up after they saw him pitch in the West Catholic Athletic League semi-finals and the CCS Division I semi-finals.
In 2013, UC Davis (19-37, 8-22) was ninth in the Big West in ERA (5.32) ahead of only Pacific. It has the fewest strikeouts and the most walks in the league. The addition of arms like Razo (Top 50 recruit) and Peters will be welcome additions as will Blais in the 2014 class. We saw Blais throw at the Reebok NorCal World Series where he showed a fastball sitting in the mid-80s with a solid feel for his change-up and curveball.
"I'm able to locate my fastball very well and still have good (velocity)," Blais said. "I can throw my off-speed stuff in any count. I control my emotions really well."
In Blais, the Aggies get a solid right-hander from a very good high school program in the fold before the summer ended.
