CaliforniaPreps.com Playoffs Preview

The CIF Southern Section finals are here and a trio of rematches in the Trinity, Foothill, and Mission Leagues headline the weekend along with the seemingly annual Inland Division clash. Vista Murrieta at Corona Centennial is the Californiapreps.com game of the week. We'll also be covering the Hart at Valencia game.

Preview of Our Fab 4 Games for the Weekend
  • Vista Murrieta at Corona Centennial on Friday

Vista Murrieta heads to Corona to face Centennial in a rematch of last year's Inland Division Championship won by the Huskies on the road. Centennial has won 2 of the past 3 games against Vista, as the teams have battled for the championship the past 3 years. Vista Murrieta played a complete game last week against Norco, as
Coltin Gerhart played well against his former team. Centennial put up a national record of 946 offensive yards in the Huskies 86-56 win over Upland. Centennial gets a much tougher test as they face the best defense they have seen this year led by Oklahoma commit Curtis Bolton and a loaded front seven.

    The Pick: Vista Murrieta

  • Hart at Valencia on Friday

The Foothill League's first and third ranked teams from the regular season face off for the Northern Division Championship. Hart heads to Valencia looking to avenge a 24-19 loss to the Vikings. Hart rebounded from back to back losses with three straight wins including a win over top seeded Palos Verdes. Senior running back Connor Wingenroth has rushed for at least 168 yards in the past 3 games, as the Indians have had a solid offensive balance. Valencia's Jake Wallace has thrown for 3,445 yards and 31 touchdowns, but the key will be how the Viking defense does against a Hart offense that they pressured and had 7 sacks against in the first meeting.

    The Pick: Hart

  • Chaminade at Serra on Friday

The Mission League's first and second ranked teams meet up in the Western Division Championship. Serra handled Chaminade in a 36-0 win on October 18th but, as last year's split with the Cavs winning in the 2012 Western Division Championship showed, anything is possible in a rematch. The Eagles are led by Miami commit Brad Kaaya, who leads a fast paced offense with Donovan Lee at running back. They will face a defense that had them completely stifled a month and a half ago. Serra is led by do it all 5-star Adoree' Jackson, who will play after missing the semifinal win over St. Francis.

    The Pick: Serra

  • Mater Dei vs St. John Bosco at Angel Stadium on Saturday

The top two teams in the Trinity League face off on Saturday under the bright lights of Angel Stadium. St. John Bosco handled Mater Dei in a 24-2 game on November 1st. Mater Dei is peaking at the right time behind a solid defense and excellent running game led by Justin Allen, who missed the first contest due to injury. This is the perfect game for the Monarchs, riding a high from 4 straight wins and a Bruce Rollinson pre-game speech to play well, but the Braves are a whole different animal from the past four teams they beat. Josh Rosen leads a St. John Bosco offense that is balanced and can play a physical 4 quarter football game. Chandler Leniu leads a stout defense that has both the size and quickness to shed blocks and stop the run.

    The Pick: St. John Bosco
