Wildcats rally past Elk Grove

Franklin used seventh inning heroics to beat Elk Grove in a wild Delta Valley Conference race. Theron Kay adds a big day on the mound and at the plate while Bella Vista suffered its first loss of the year.

No. 16 Franklin-Elk Grove knocked off No. 3 Elk Grove 7-6. Holding a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh, Franklin surrendered three runs to Elk Grove before staging a bottom of the seventh rally with two runs. Jordan Estes and Gabe Abelia each had two hits. Zachary Tresemer had two RBI on his game winning hit, according to John Hull of the Elk Grove Citizen. Senior Cameron Keup battled for a complete game in striking out nine batters.

With Davis' win over Laguna Creek (4-2) and Grant beating Laguna Creek (7-2), there are four teams sitting at 2-1 before the completion of the first run through the Delta River Conference on Friday. Games to watch the rest of the week are Franklin hosting Grant today and Davis traveling to Elk Grove on Friday.

Elk Grove remains the favorite in the DVC with Davis and Franklin in the NCP Top 20. Grant is on the Division I bubble. The DVC had produced the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North winner three of the last four years.

Kay shines in win

The Lancers scratched out a fourth inning run, but that's all they got in a 1-0 win over Riordan. Tyler Deason threw a complete game four hitter with 15 strikeouts. Ryan Johnson knocked in Deason for the deciding run.

Next up for the top ranked Lancers is a trip to Mitty, which fell to Valley Christian-San Jose (5-0) on Tuesday. In the win, Warriors' ace Theron Kay had a no-hitter with six strikeouts. He added a home run and four RBI at the plate.
