SRV rallies into 1st
The San Ramon Valley Wolves were a game back of 1st place in the East Bay Athletic League until they beat California on Friday by scoring seven unearned runs. With the Grizzlies up 4-2 headed to the seventh inning, the Wolves put up five runs, mostly on errors, to win the game, 7-4.
Two errors, a hit batter, and an RBI single did the job for the Wolves as Connor Neumann pitched three and a third innings of shutout relief. The game was shaky for San Ramon in the early goings, starting pitcher Connor Loar gave up four unearned runs on wild pitches, errors, and three walks. The Wolves' catcher, Nate Kanat, went 3-for-4 from the plate, he drove in and scored a run.
The Grizzlies, who were in sole possession of first place at the start of the day, are now tied with SRV and De La Salle. It was not a bad game for Cal until the seventh inning, when errors allowed San Ramon to bust it open. All seven runs were unearned as starting pitcher Sam Cabral went four and two-thirds innings, only giving up two unearned runs. Noone swung the bat well for Cal, which had just two hits all game. Even with only two hits on the day, the Grizzlies were in a position to win, up 4-2 in the seventh inning, but errors cost them the game.
The Grizzlies take their first home loss of the season and now are 16-4 and 7-3 in league. Along with San Ramon who is also 7-3 in league. With four league games left on most schedules, both SRV and Cal High will play De La Salle once more to decide the EBAL race.
