McGlaston is on top
Meet Mecca McGlaston. It was impressive enough that Mecca advanced to the state finals as a freshman in her first year running competitively (she finished eighth), but this time she outdid herself as the Dublin High star gave NorCal it's fourth consecutive first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles state championships (it was Sasha Wallace in 2012-13 and Trinity Wilson in 2011) this past weekend with an official wind-aided time of 13.54 seconds, a personal best.
Regarding the secret of her success, father Daryl McGlaston simply says about his daughter, "we put in time and we're a supportive family."
In addition, the elder McGlaston gives credit to Mecca's high school coach Chris Williams and mentor Kevin Craddock. Craddock in particular knows a thing or two about the hurdles having had recent success at both Logan of Union City and UCLA.
Although McGlaston likes volleyball, she comes from a basketball family that includes siblings/former prep stars Jason (St. Joseph-Notre Dame), Erica (Berkeley High), and JoJo McGlaston (Dublin, now at Utah State) but track and field, much to the chagrin of her competition, is her passion.
A 3.0 student, Mecca has so far received correspondence from Kentucky, USC, UCLA, CAL and Oregon, but after her magnificent weekend at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis expect that list to grown exponentially.
