Girls BB: Valencia Beats Pacifica

Sandra Ikeora scored 24 points and Jasmin Dimson added 11 to lead Valencia to a 66-34 first-round victory over Oxnard Pacifica Saturday evening in girls' Division 1AA playoff action. Valencia led most of the way but broke the game open with a 16-0 run to start the fourth quarter.

Valencia (21-7) took a 10-4 lead midway through the first quarter and led, 13-7, at the end of the first quarter. But Pacifica (14-11) stayed close throughout the first half, drawing within two points at 19-17 with 2:36 left in the second quarter. Ikeora pushed Valencia's lead to eight points with a basket in the final seconds of the first half, making it 27-19 at the halftime break.
Valencia pulled away in the second half, however, with a 10-0 run early in the third quarter to take command of the game. Ikeora converted a 3-point play with 5:39 left in the quarter to push Valencia's lead to double figures for the first time at 33-21. Kalia Summerlin scored off an inbounds pass to make it 35-21, and Ikeora scored on a putback to finish the run and made it 37-21.
Valencia pushed its lead to 20 points when Talia Roth scored off a pass from Dimson and was fouled. She missed the free throw, but Ikeora scored on a putback to make it 43-23 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter.
Pacifica cut the deficit to 17 points at the end of the third quarter to trail, 44-27. But then Valencia started the fourth quarter with a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach. A 3-point play by Roth started the run and restored Valencia's 20-point lead at 47-27. Ikeora scored the last two baskets of the run to make it 60-27, at which point she and the other starters left the game, their work complete.
Ikeora finished 11 of 13 from the floor for her game-high 24 points, and she also had 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Dimson had 11 points plus 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Roth had 5 points, 8 rebounds and a game-high 6 assists. Preea Johnson came off the bench for 6 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
For Pacifica, Morales finished with 18 points, including 3 three-pointers, and 2 steals. But she was the only Triton to score more than 4 points. Cassandra Luna had 3 points plus a team-high 10 rebounds, as well as 2 blocks and 3 steals.
