We missed the first half and when we picked up the action LB Poly was in a commanding position, leading 31-14. But Lynwood soon went to work and began to make a run. And what a run; before it ended Lynwood had rang up a 12-2 spurt and was back in the ballgame, trailing only 33-26 with 3 minutes left.
Taja Edwards wasn't named MVP without a reason and she stopped the Lynwood run with a beautiful drive and finish to extend Poly's lead to 35-26. But Lynwood wasn't ready to concede anything yet. When Jazmine Matthews drilled a three-pointer, Lynwood only trailed 35-30 and 1:10 was still showing on the game clock.
LB Poly wouldn't let Lynwood get any closer though. Candice Nichols came through in the clutch and hit both ends of a one-and-one with 51 seconds left to give Poly some space (37-30) to breathe easier. Lynwood's Reyana Colson hit a jumper with 17 seconds left to make it a two possession game at 38-32 but Nichols answered to seal the deal by hitting a free throw with 11 seconds left.
We grabbed a quick look at the scoresheet before it was gone and we had Jasmine Dixon scoring 10 points for Poly and Jessica Barfield hitting for 13 for Lynwood.
