Windward (18-2, 4-0) led wire-to-wire, but Sierra Canyon kept the deficit to single digits most of the time until the final four-plus minutes when Windward finally pulled away. Simon scored on a putback to make it 55-44 midway through the final quarter, and added a free throw a bit later to push the lead to a dozen, and Canada scored on a pair of lay-ups in the final two minutes to secure the win for Windward.
After Windward began the game by scoring the evening's first four points, Sierra Canyon (19-2, 4-1) answered by scoring the next four points. But then Windward went on a 12-0 run, taking a 16-4 lead after Simon scored on a putback. Sierra Canyon got a lay-up from Zoe Goss in the final minute of the first quarter to cut the margin to single digits at 18-9.
Windward pushed the lead to 13 points at 22-9 after a driving lay-up by Canada and a short jumper by Emily Surloff to start the second quarter. But Sierra Canyon battled back, cutting the deficit to just five points on a 3-pointer by Cheyanne Wallace with 2:50 left in the half that made it 26-21, and got within four points a little later when Burke scored to make it 27-23 with 2:20 left in the second quarter.
Windward pushed the margin back to nine points on a 3-pointer by Canada and a short jumper by Alyssa Ramlochan to end the first half.
Sierra Canyon got a 3-pointer from Gabi Nevill in the opening seconds of the third quarter to again cut the deficit to six points at 32-26, but then Windward threatened to pull away. A 3-pointer by Chelsey Gipson and a driving lay-up by Canada pushed the lead to 11 points at 39-28. Then Canada split two free throws to make it 40-28. Canada made one of two free throws with 0.9 seconds left in the third quarter to push the lead to 13 points at 48-35.
Windward maintained a fairly comfortable lead throughout the fourth quarter. Sierra Canyon got within 8 points when Nevill made two free throws following a technical foul on Simon, making it 50-42 with 5:50 left. But that was as close as the Trailblazers would get. Simon's putback with just over four minutes left pushed the Windward lead back to double digits, and it stayed there the rest of the way.
