Golden Valley Tops San Marino

All 12 players scored at least a point as Golden Valley notched its second victory of the season with a 61-50 win over visiting San Marino Friday night in Santa Clarita.

After falling behind, 2-0, Golden Valley (2-6) went on a 9-0 run and led the rest of the way. The Grizzlies led by 21 early in the third quarter, though San Marino (4-6) cut the deficit to nine points a couple of times in the second half.
Golden Valley held a 15-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a basket by Jordan Glover made it 17-7. A 3-pointer by Kevin Wang brought the Titans within seven, but Golden Valley pushed its lead back to double digits when Glover hit two straight jumpers to make it 24-12.
Three-pointers by Kourbine Lee and Kyle Strem in the final minute of the second quarter pushed Golden Valley's lead to 30-12 at the end of the first half. And Dominique Gully hit a 3-pointer in the opening seconds of the third quarter to make it 33-12.
San Marino rallied to cut the deficit to nine points at 37-28 late in the third quarter after a 3-pointer by Jasper Hwang. Golden Valley scored the game's next seven points to push its lead back to 16 points at 44-28 after two 3-pointers by Jon Antipuesto in the first minute of the fourth quarter.
The Titans again cut the deficit to nine points on a 3-point play by Hwang with 1:08 to play. But David Robins scored on a driving lay-up to push the lead back to double digits at 59-48, and Tristan Peralta made two free throws with 24 seconds left to make it 61-48 and seal the win for the Grizzlies.
Jordan Watkins led Golden Valley with 9 points, and he also had 8 rebounds. Antipuesto also had 9 points. Glover had 8 points and Gully had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. James Chevious came off the bench for 7 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Freshman C.J. Jacobs had just one point but grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds.
For San Marino, Hwang led all scorers with 24 points, and he added 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Wang had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Jamal Etayeb came off the bench for 5 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.
JV Game: Golden Valley 78, San Marino 71 (OT)
Cameron Knox scored 36 points including 2 free throws to send the game to overtime and 4 free throws to seal the win for Golden Valley.
