Game 1:
Dominguez (Compton) 69, Rancho Christian (Temecula) 50The game was close in the first half and the Dons of Dominguez went into the locker room with a 31-26 lead. The Dons used an attacking fast break to pull away in the second half and cruise to the victory. Dominguez was paced by seniors EJ Johnson and Earl Morgan who had 15 points each. Rancho Christian was lead by promising freshman guard Jamal Bower with 15 points while sophomore Jamel McMahan contributed 14.
Game 2: Mayfair (Lakewood) 62, Locke (Los Angeles) 33The Saints of Locke proved to be no match for the Mayfair Monsoons. Mayfair raced to a 28-14 lead and never looked back in the second half, scoring numerous easy baskets in transition. Seniors Jarrod Sheffield and Mark Patterson lead Mayfair with 14 points and 12 points respectively. Seniors Damien Jones and William Harold each scored 10 for the Saints.
Game 3: Long Beach Poly 86, Manual Arts (Los Angeles) 12This one was a complete mismatch from the opening tip. Poly's full court pressure broke down the Toilers of Manual Arts who often had trouble advancing the ball to the offensive end of the court. The Jackrabbits started the game on a 17-0 run and it was an incredible 52-6 at the half. Poly subbed liberally throughout the game but took advantage of their impressive depth in doing so. Poly was led by USC-bound Roschon Prince with 23 points. Senior Brandon Staton chipped in with 15. Manual Arts leading scorer was senior Martin Castellanos who had 6.
Game 4: Serra (Gardena) 52, Tesoro (Las Flores) 43The Cavaliers of Serra trailed early as the Tesoro Titans held an 11-10 lead at the end of one quarter. But Serra used a 19-7 second quarter advantage to go ahead 29-18 at intermission. The Cavaliers never trailed in the second half and used some efficient offense, both in transition and the half court to seal the victory. Serra was paced by junior forward Tavrion Dawson with 17 points while senior Jeremy Wright netted 16. Washington State-bound Tanner Lancona of Tesoro topped all scorers with 22 points.
Day 2 - Tuesday, November 27 Schedule:330 pm - Narbonne vs. Manual Arts
500 pm - Tesoro vs. Gardena
630 pm - Westchester vs. Rancho Christian
800 pm - Redondo Union vs. Mayfair
9th Annual Rose City Roundball Classic at Pasadena HSBy Dave Keefer
Game 1: Long Beach Jordan 64, La Verne Lutheran 63 OTThis was by far the most competitive and closest game of the day, as the game was tight the whole way. It was tied at the end of regulation, 57-57, and wasn't decided until 4 seconds were left in overtime. That's when Deonta Wingfield sank one of two free throws to put LB Jordan ahead for good, 64-63. Kaleahl Ferguson and Raushead Johnson each scored 16 points for the winners, while teammate Seth Guillory added 13. For La Verne Lutheran, sophomore Tey Williams had a game-high 18 points, and was aided by Joe Rushing with 15 and Jay Miller with 14.
Game 2: Chino Hills 97, Cleveland 79Throw out the opening blitz by Chino Hills and this was actually a pretty evenly played game. Unfortunately for Cleveland, they found themselves down 20-4 before they could regroup. Chino Hills was stronger and had some good outside shooting to complement their advantage on the boards. But Cleveland was scrappy and refused to buckle. Trailing 23-6, they closed the first quarter strong and made it 24-15 after Malik Johnson slammed down a dunk.
Chino Hills, behind the excellent work of guys like Lonzo Ball, Wesley Ondatie, Bishop Mency, and KC Cyprian, pushed out to a 43-25 lead in the second quarter. Back came Cleveland again to cut it to 46-40 at the half. But Chino Hills had too much and finally pulled away for good in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Mike Oguine shined for Cleveland and is a name to remember.
Game 3: Price 91, Ventura 57This game was 10-10 early and Ventura trailed only 15-14 when the roof caved in. Price's fullcourt pressure completely dominated Ventura and Price soon had total control. The outcome was never in doubt after halftime.
Game 4: Pasadena over AGBU AGBU stepped up from the Governor's Division to take on host Pasadena after Birmingham was replaced on the card. Not sure if they dropped out or had to be replaced for just this game. But it was probably just as well, because there was no stopping the host Bulldogs in this one. They raced out to a 27-0 lead behind a smothering press. Andy Ketsoyan finally hit a jumper at the 2:36 mark to get AGBU on the board. We left after the first quarter with Pasadena safely on the way to an opening round win. They'll play Chino Hills on Wednesday and should have a much tougher time in that game.
The Diablo Inferno at Mission Viejo HSBy Jack Nelson
JSerra 54, Woodbridge 39The Diablo Inferno basketball classic at Mission Viejo tipped off Monday evening at Mission Viejo High School and two of the top 10 teams in Orange County played their first game today. The JSerra Catholic Lions, coached by Joey Gardner and ranked #3 in the preseason Orange County Register poll defeated the Woodbridge Warriors by a final score of 54-39. But the Warriors did give the Lions a scare midway through the 4th quarter when they closed the gap to just 3 points after trailing 40-28 at the end of three quarters.
The Lions could not buy a bucket and the Warriors, led by Jason Gregson, 6-4 Jr wing and Michael Scarlett went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 40-37 with just 3:27 to play. But a putback by Rex Pflueger, 6-5 soph and then a three pointer by his brother Devon Pflueger, 6-6 wing swung the momentum back to the Lions, as they outscored Woodbridge 14-2 in the final three minutes of the game.
JSerra is not up to full strength yet as they have a heralded 6-8,260 Lb Soph Nick Pallas out with an injury and they also are missing their starting PG, 6-0 Jr. Johnnie Vassar who will probably be eligible to play later this week. Coach Gardner says he is going to be the top PG in the Trinity League this season and if that is true, the Lions will probably live up to their high ranking in Orange County this year.
The Lions Center, 6-6 Sr.Jamal Aytes is a preseason pick by the OC Register as a first team all county player. He had a subpar game tonight that kept the Lions from putting the Warriors away much earlier than they did. Devon Pflueger led the Lions in scoring with 16 and Aytes contributed 13 points and 8 boards . Gregson and Scarlett led the Warriors with 19 and 12 respectively.
This tournament is being played in a pool format and there are two pools. Pool A is composed of Capo Valley, Dana Hills, Foothill Temecula Valley and Woodbridge. Pool B is composed of Corona Santiago, North Torrance, JSerra, Mission Viejo and Villa Park. Each team will play 3 games in the first 5 days and then on Saturday the top team in each pool will play for the Championship. The other teams will also all play with the last place team in each pool kicking it off at 2pm playing for 9th place with the championship game slated for 8PM.

Mission Viejo 91, North Torrance 33The Mission Viejo Diablos opened their 2012-13 season with a resounding 91-33 victory over the undersized and outmanned North Torrance Saxons on Mission Viejo's home court in the opening night finale of the Diablo Inferno Classic on Monday night.
The tourney consists of 10 teams, with 5 in pool A and 5 in Pool B and each team plays 3 games of pool play over the first 5 days. Then in order of finish the #1 team in each pool will play each other in the championship game at 8 PM on Saturday, Dec 1st and the the other teams 2 thru 5 will play their counterparts  with the two # 5 teams opening the final day with a 2 PM start.
Diablo coach Troy Roelen fields a veteran team with 5 senior starters led by Evan Zeller who is a preseason first team pick for all county by the Orange County Register and certainly lived up to his hype in this game as the 6-3 Sr drove in for a thunderous slam dunk to open the game's scoring. Mission Viejo never looked back as they ran off to a 15-2 lead, led by 6-2 Sr. Max Redfield, the two-sport star who has played football and basketball for Mission Viejo. This is the first year that he has been able to play in their season opening basketball game due to their earlier than expected elimination from the playoffs.
Looking on in the stands Monday night was none other than the head football coach of Notre Dame, Brian Kelly who stayed out here in California after the #1 Irish defeated USC on Saturday night to court the athletic wide receiver to take his talents to South Bend next season.
And certainly Max made a great impression on everyone in attendance as he was in double figures after coming out of the game for a short rest at the 4:35 mark of the first period with the score 15-2  in the midst of a 18-0 Diablo run. Mission Viejo led 28-4 at the end of the first quarter and Roelen had all 14 of his players in action before halftime when they led 46-16.
Zeller showed off his multiple skills, as he scored 14 of his game high 21 points in a 35-point outburst that saw Mission Viejo leading 81-24 after three periods of play. The game went to a running clock in the fourth period but Mission Viejo was not pouring it on, as 13 of the 14 Diablo players got in the scoring column, with just Zeller with 21 and Redfield with 20 in double figures.
Mission Viejo is ranked #6 in the preseason Orange County Register poll and they certainly have a chance to rise higher but they will be tested by a better team tonight in Villa Park and then on Thursday night will face #3 ranked JSerra. #2 ranked Foothill is in the opposite pool so they could possibly meet in a final of what should prove to be a competitive final 4 as Temecula Valley from San Diego county had a convincing 62-45 win over Capistrano Valley in the 5 Pm lidlifter on Monday.
Mission Viejo shot 34-63 from the field including 5-11 from behind the arc for 53.9 and 18-23 from the free throw line for 80% while North Torrance was 13-44 including 4-19 from three point country. North Torrance's next game will be Thursday at 6:30 PM at the same venue.
