Oregon lands more speed with Jaylon Redd commitment

From the beginning of Jaylon Redd’s recruitment, Oregon was a serious contender because he liked so much about the program.

The four-star especially appreciated how the coaching staff talked about utilizing him on the field, comparing him to Charles Nelson and saying he could be a threat on offense, defense and special teams.

That was one of many reasons why the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., standout committed to the Ducks on Monday.

“I could see it like a Charles Nelson-type deal,” Redd said early this spring after Oregon decided to offer.

“It tells me they want me to show my abilities and not limit me in anything. That’s really good.”

The Ducks have landed Redd’s commitment but the No. 4 athlete nationally – No. 98 overall – still plans a round of official visits through the next couple months.

Redd has already taken his official visit to Nebraska and he will head to Oregon for the Stanford showdown in November.

Trips to UCLA, USC, Arizona and Arizona State – whether official or unofficial – are also expected in the coming months.

If there is one bigger threat to Oregon long term in Redd’s recruitment it could be UCLA since the Bruins have been aggressive with him recently.

Coach Demetrice Martin continues to recruit the Rancho Cucamonga standout. Redd has developed a great relationship with Martin and the Bruins have made it clear they could use his athleticism and speed all over the field as well.
