This Saturday, the War On The Floor “Above The Rim” Showcase brought out the best of the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas for 4 all-star games that featured nearly 900 shots taken and resulted in more than 900 points being scored.
Jaquan Lightfoot (Taft), who was ineligible all season after transferring in from New York, took advantage of the chance to make up for lost time Saturday and played in all three boys’ games, putting together Wilt-like totals of 63 points and 46 rebounds and helping his teams to wins in each game.
Jordan Cohen (Campbell Hall) had a triple-double in the final game. And Chibuzo Ikonte (Valencia) not only had a solid performance with 20 points and 10 rebounds in his game, but won his second Slam Dunk contest championship in three weeks.
But none of those guys captured an MVP award for any of the games.
Isaac Etter (Village Christian) poured in 37 points in the first game, Ryan Murphy (Calabasas) had 35 in the second game and Devearl Ramsey (Sierra Canyon) had 30 in the finale to earn MVP honors in the boys’ games, while Kayla Overbeck (Newbury Park) scored all 17 of her points in the second half, leading her team back from a 14-point deficit, to earn MVP honors in the girls’ game.
We'll have reports on all 4 all-star games, plus a report on a very competitive slam dunk contest that occurred at halftime of the nightcap. Here is the 1st of our 5 reports on game 1:
