Ventura County Senior All-Star Game: West 84, East 59

Celeste Salazar (Pacifica), playing in her home gym for the final time, captured Most Valuable Player honors with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, leading the West to an 84-59 win in the 2016 Ventura County Coaches Association Girls’ All-Star Game Saturday evening.

The East took an early 2-0 lead on a basket by Sarah Kelly (Oak Park), but the West scored the game’s next 7 points and never looked back.

The lead was 13 points at the end of the first quarter and 12 at the half, and the margin stretched to 21 points in the third quarter following a driving lay-up by Salazar just before the horn to end the quarter that made it 62-41.

A steal & jumper by Kelsea Illengo (Channel Islands) pushed the margin to 25 points at 75-50 midway through the fourth quarter.

Salazar led all scorers with her 21 points, which included 3 three-pointers.

Simone Lewis (Camarillo) also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and she also had 4 blocked shots, 3 of which came on one 5-second sequence in the third quarter.

Charlyee Amos (Channel Islands) had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals, and Illengo had 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Reagan Flippo (Ventura) had 8 points and a game-high 7 assists.

For the East, Avery Brunk (Newbury Park) had a team-high 19 points, and she also had 10 rebounds, 3 assists, a block and a steal.

Mia Moore (Agoura) had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Kelly had just 6 points but grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds.
