Death of the WNBA? This could be the last year

E-Woods, how sad can this be? The WNBA is in its final season, Fosho, you must be lying bro? No, cost too much to keep going, women's league on last legs. #Dang for real

I debated, should I tell the public the truth? Yes or No, then Maya Angelou's words hit me:

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."

That's why I'm sharing this sad tale. One week ago my source, person close to the NBA Governing board said the NBA is tired of spending 16 million bucks a year to subsidize a women's league, too much bread. After this season, this league will be dead.

Man, where do I begin? I been bummed all week long. If you call up NBA insiders in the know, they'll confirm that this will be the WNBA's last year. No more further shall it....."flow."

Why? Fan attendance? The WNBA can't generate their own revenue stream? There's just not enough hoop fans or support. Women never get respect, even in a sport.

People will say, E-Woods you.......LIE.

I wish I was because I think the WNBA is super "FLY!"

In 1989, I'm pretending to be Lisa Leslie at practice for my Ventura High girls team that had to play Lisa in the state playoffs. In ‘89 I’m 6-5, 180 lbs and could dunk, but so could Lisa Leslie back then.

I was telling myself, this girl Lisa put up 100 points in one half of a game so she should have a women's league to feature herself. Like the men have the NBA, be treated just the same.

The WNBA in 1997 centered its marketing campaign, dubbed "We Got Next", around stars Rebecca Lobo, Lisa Leslie and Sheryl Swoopes.

So who’s Got Next Now? Nobody does after this season.

The current catchphrase is “Watch Me Work.” After this year maybe we watch them ball in other leagues, in other countries. But to me, this is so so sad.

I'm excited to do a story on the dope dopest Pac-12 player Jordin Canada soon. She's that All American out of Windward High. She reminds me so much of Russell Westbrook and Baron Davis. She got Ray Allen, She Got Game skills no doubt.

When I was at the same Boys Club as Russ Westbrook at the Challengers Club on 50th and Vermont in LA, he probably had hopes of being a pro in the NBA. Our lil sis Jordin Canada and her protege Charmisa Osborne at Windward now will have no "L" to shoot for.

Neither will Ryann Payne, nor any if the dope prep ballers I've seeing ball lately. Really, how sad is that. #Dang Son

Sports Illustrated gave a top 15 of the best WNBA Players if all time. I have my fav, you probably have your fav too, but click on it, enjoy the memories. Cuz after this season they're only memories.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and have the WNBA go on forever but I doubt they'll cancel their decision to cancel the WNBA.

Our women's national soccer team wins a lot, a lot more than our men's team, yet they are paid less, get to stay in inferior hotels. It's just that people don't support women's sports. Period.

This may be a story about the death of the WNBA but it's really a story on how society doesn't support women's basketball.

My heart breaks, like a raisin drying up in the sun. Maya Angelou, our great American poet, sums all this up best:

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

The WNBA made us feel good about women's pro basketball, and that's worth celebrating and mourning all at the same time.
