MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - DJ Uiagalelei could be one of the best quarterbacks in the 2020 class so every visit he takes is important.
He’s closely watched because he’s such a talented prospect so when the Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout takes his family on a visit to USC, it’s definitely noteworthy.
He talked about it last weekend at the Under Armour Camp.
“I was just there with my family, me, my dad, my mom and my brother,” Uiagalelei said.
“We just went over and talked to the coaches, talked about different stuff and looked at the campus. My mom has never been there to look at the campus, really see the weight room and see everything around there so that’s what we did.”
During his trip to USC, Uiagalelei had an opportunity to speak more with coach Clay Helton and that was important early on.
Something the 2020 standout will watch closely is how new quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis works with the players at his position. It could play a big factor in Uiagalelei’s thinking.
“He was talking about different stuff, all the things they have at USC, the academics and football stuff and all the different stuff I can do there,” Uiagalelei said of Helton.
As for a decision timetable, the St. John Bosco recruit said he has no idea about a commitment since he hasn’t even started his junior season yet.
“I have no clue,” Uiagalelei said.
Visits to Cal and Stanford could happen soon. He might also head to the Florida State or LSU spring game.
Taking over in his sophomore season, Uiagalelei threw for 2,733 yards with 29 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for four scores.
